Alone in the woods

Art and story by Kiowah

Young Cody decided to take another route for his daily workout.

It was a hot day and he hoped to find some shade in the woods. He did. Yet he also encountered a group of boys from the neighbouring village. He knew that those kids were up to no good. But he trusted his speed and thought he'd get away.

But the other boys weren't lame either... And Cody was alone against four of them. After a short struggle he capitulated.

Although he was too proud to scream or shout for help, they took an old handkerchief and gagged poor Cody. All he could do was sit and wait while his tormentors discussed many interesting possibilities. Sometimes Cody couldn't help but mumble when the boys uttered most disgusting ideas.

After a while, they decided to tie him to a tree and leave him there for the wolves. Again, he mumbled and tried to escape. Yet, they held him tightly.

The boys weren't well prepared, so one of them had to run back to their village to get some rope. Even more time for Cody to think about his destiny.

When the boy came back with the rope, they dragged him to a tree and securely tied his hands behind the trunk.

Again, his tormentors thought about even funnier things they could do to him. Seeing him helplessly tied to the tree seemed to fire their imagination.

Yet, he only received some mock punches and a little tickling. The boys didn't dare to risk more: they knew that someday it could be their turn.

After two hours of celebrating Cody's capture, the boys decided it was boring to watch their immobilized and silenced victim and went back to their village.

Now Cody felt very uncomfortable. There were no wolves and not many other dangers. But the tree was hidden from all pathways and he didn't want to wait for days until someone found him. He was already thirsty and hungry.

But he had to wait some more hours. It was already dark when he saw an approaching torch.

It was the boy who had managed to bring the rope.

"My father misses his rope. Needs it for something. You're the Lucky Boy!"

Yet, before he untied poor Cody he nicked his shoelaces.

"Won't let you go that easy!" he said.

He first tied Cody's ankles with the lace. Then he untied the rope and pushed Cody to the ground. It all went quite fast, so Cody hardly resisted when he felt that the boy was tying his hands behind his back.

"I'll leave you like that. Your feet are loosely tied. Should be possible to untie them. Have a nice walk home!"

Thus, Cody's adventure continued. For what seemed like an eternity he lay in the darkness and tried to free his feet at least. After half an hour he succeeded. Yet his hands were artfully knotted and roped. He faced the embarrassing fact that he had to walk home tied and gagged. What if some other kids saw him? He'd be the laugh of the whole village for months.

It was not some other kids though: it was even worse. When he slipped into the house - which wasn't all that easy with his handicap - and wanted to go into the kitchen to search a knife he was welcomed by Kevin, his younger brother.

All I can tell is that that evening Cody spent some more time with his hands behind his back. And as there was no shortage of rope, he found himself at one point completely unable to move. It cost Cody a fortune to get away from his little kidnapper, who relished in having his older brother under control for once.

But the promise not to tell anybody what had happened was even more expensive. Cody's parents were quite surprised when Cody voluntarily took on all of his brother's duties...
